Two junipers, one from the Himalayas and one Macedonian, set a fragrant backbone for Darjeeling tea, cardamom and clove, while cashew lends a curiously velvety weight. Distilled in copper pots in Goa, it carries warmth and lift in equal measure. The name nods to a Hindi word for an irrepressible love of life.
Description
Jin Jiji takes its name from jijivisha, the Hindi word for an unquenchable lust for life, and it is distilled in Goa in traditional copper pot stills. The bill is unmistakably Indian: Himalayan and Macedonian juniper, Darjeeling tea, fresh Indian lemon peel, ginger, clove and cardamom, with cashew nuts lending the spirit its unusually rounded, velvety texture.
The nose is fruity and fragrant, juniper threaded with coriander, Darjeeling and angelica. The palate is fresh and layered, cashew softness giving way to lemon peel, warming cardamom and a flicker of clove and ginger. The finish runs long and gently spiced. Best in a generous gin and tonic with a wedge of lemon, or stirred into a spice-forward Negroni.
