Munakra Handcrafted Vienna Dry Gin Mystic Garden

Munakra began with a young Austrian couple, a few summer nights of gin and tonic, and a glimpse of a supposedly blue snake that set them chasing a natural colour change. They distil in a wood-fired copper still that has run for generations and bottle by hand in small batches in the centre of Vienna. Sixteen natural botanicals go in, among them hibiscus, rose petals, elderberries, red grapes, rosehips and lemon, and an infusion of cotton-rose flower turns the spirit purple-pink, then deep red the moment acid from tonic hits it.

The nose is fresh and floral, citrus and juniper lifted by elderflower. The palate is fruity, rose petal and elderberry threaded with rosehip, lemon and red grape, and the finish runs long and softly fruited. Enjoy it neat to admire the colour, or classically with tonic and watch it bloom red.
