Description
The Mars 2013 Cask 1664 is a single cask single malt from Mars Shinshu, the Hombo Shuzo distillery at Miyada in Nagano's Central Alps, distilled in 2013 and bottled after three years in a bourbon barrel for an event-market release in 2016. Event-only expressions from the distillery tend to offer direct, unfiltered access to individual cask character, with the bottler's selection the primary variable.
At 58.9% cask strength, Cask 1664 delivers a grainy sweetness typical of young bourbon barrel maturation, with cooked mash as the defining note alongside the expected wood tannin and light vanilla. The bourbon barrel at this age is dominant and direct; the clean Nagano mountain character is present beneath but secondary to the cask's contribution. An event-market bottling for those who want an unvarnished early-phase document from the revived Mars Shinshu.
