Description
Karuizawa 1977 Wait La Mazurka DD is a single-cask single malt from Karuizawa distillery in Nagano Prefecture, distilled in 1977 and aged for 31 years before being bottled in 2009 by Daily Dram for the Belgian market at 62.7% cask strength. The La Mazurka name connects to the Daily Dram series that drew on European demand for aged Japanese stock in the years after Karuizawa's closure in 2000.
Three decades in an Oloroso sherry cask have given the whisky the dense, richly layered character the distillery is celebrated for: dark dried fruit, leather, bitter chocolate and a savoury, almost meaty depth from the well-seasoned sherry wood. At 62.7% it is among the most intense Karuizawa bottlings available, concentrated and fiery at full strength but revealing notable complexity with the addition of water. The 1977 vintage places the spirit among the older remaining stocks from the closed Nagano site.
