Hakushu Spanish Oak is a no age statement, cask strength single malt from Suntory's forest distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture, released for the Japanese domestic market in 2021 at 48%. The expression highlights Spanish Oak as its defining maturation vessel, a departure from the Ex-Bourbon casks used across most of the core Hakushu range.

Spanish Oak maturation introduces dried fruit, spiced oak and a sherry-like warmth to the distillery's naturally fresh, herbal spirit from the Southern Japanese Alps. The flavour data points to dried fruit as the leading note, with the higher cask strength ABV ensuring the wood influence is delivered at full intensity alongside Hakushu's underlying green and mineral freshness, creating an unusual and richer face of this forest distillery.
