From RomDeluxe's Wild Series, the Danish bottler's line of very high strength, single cask releases, this is a 9 year old Trinidad rum from the Angostura group's Trinidad Distillers, 2016 vintage. It comes off a column still in the island's lighter, modern idiom, then bottled without dilution at a fierce 65.8%.
Nine years in ex-bourbon oak give it light wood for the strength, with herbal, citrus and intense notes on the nose and a fresh, minty, woody palate that stays lively into a finish of apple and peach. This is a young and powerful pour pulled at full proof, more about raw, fresh character than the soft chocolate and caramel that living Trinidad rum is usually known for. A drop of water and some patience help it open. Bottled at cask strength.
