Description

This is a DDL El Dorado Single Still release showcasing the Versailles single wooden pot still, distilled in 2009 and bottled at 12 years and 40%. Versailles sits between Enmore and Port Mourant in the Guyanese hierarchy, a robust, tannic, raw-wood still, presented here in a gentle, lower-strength form.

The rum keeps the classic Versailles markers, cedar, plum, black licorice and dried fruit with caramel and a leathery finish, but at 40% it reads soft and relaxed rather than powerful. As a DDL bottling it is easy-drinking and very approachable, though clearly less intense than the cask-strength independent Versailles releases, and some drinkers will wish for more body. It works best as a low-key way to taste the wooden pot still character, taken neat.
