A 22 year old Colombian column rum finished in Port casks, bottled unsweetened, with burnt sugar, earthy spice and banana over a sweet but dry, oily finish at 42%, fruit-driven and wine-tinged.
Description
Dictador's Capitulo Uno is a Colombian molasses ron vintaged 1998 and finished in Port casks, a single-vintage release from the distillery's own column stills. Listed as unsweetened, it leans on cask influence rather than added dosage, which sets it apart from the sweeter end of the brand's range.
The Port finish drives the character. Aromas of burnt sugar, earth and a touch of spirit lead into a palate of spice, fruit and red-wine sweetness, with banana and an oily texture appearing on a finish that is sweet up front but trails off woody and dry. At 42% it stays approachable. Where many soft Colombian rons rely on sugar for their roundness, this one earns its richness from long oak and a wine-cask twist, making it a more serious sipper than its softer siblings.
