Bonpland Blanc VSOP is a multi country molasses rum blend from Capulet and Montague Brands in Germany, bottled without an age statement at 40%. The Bonpland name spans a range of origins, and this release sits at the lighter, drier end of the spectrum, built more for value and mixing than for sipping.

The nose shows dried apricot, peach, young wood and a little spice, while the palate brings apricot, anise and an astringent, alcoholic edge, finishing thin and sharp with more anise. Drinkers find a pleasant peach and apricot fruitiness in the nose and palate but note it runs a touch flat, dry and surprisingly spirity for 40%. The wine influence some bottlings carry is faint here. It is honestly an unnotable middle of the road rum that comes into its own with cola, where the fruit and spice give a decent mixed drink. As a neat sipper it is on the rough side.
