Bottled by Jack Tar in its Old Music Series as the Burrokeet Edition, this is a heavy Trinidad rum from Caroni, the closed Trinidad distillery whose oily industrial style collectors chase. The single cask comes from the 1997 vintage, aged 21 years and offered at a full 60.1% cask strength.

Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it leads with the unmistakable Caroni attack of tar, rubber and petrol, layered over toasted oak, dark chocolate and herbs with a cooling thread of mint and tobacco. The palate stays dry and woody, the finish long, tannic and smoky. There is no mistaking the distillery from the first pour. This keeps the dirty side dialled up with extra dryness and oak, a rewarding challenge for experienced drinkers who already enjoy heavy Caroni and want it at its most uncompromising.
