Description
A Glenburgie of an 8 year old chosen by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, distilled in 2013, from cask 71.90, at 63%, one of 225 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, owned by Chivas Brothers and one of the larger Speyside distilleries. Its water is drawn from a local spring near the distillery. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878.
The spirit was run slowly off the spirit still, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the clean, fruity spirit. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax.
At a natural 63% it is full and waxy. Pear, honey and a creamy oak, lifted by a soft oak. It is soft and gently waxy, the light spirit shining through. A fresh finish closes on apple and a soft oak. This is Glenburgie's bright, orchard led Speyside character.
