Description
A distillery release of Glenburgie, a 15 year old, at 40%. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, long the fruity heart of the Ballantine's blend. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878.
The spirit was distilled in tall onion shaped pot stills, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds ripe esters of apple and a light tropical note over a waxy depth. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool Speyside warehouses. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At 40% it is smooth and fruity. Apple, pear and fresh cut grass, lifted by a soft oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a fragrant Speyside single malt of real lightness.
