A 24 year old GlenAllachie from Cadenhead, 1992, at 54.2%. Raisin, chocolate and a dark spice fill the glass. Built for the blend boom of the 1960s, now a sherry led single malt. A rich, deep Speyside single malt of dried fruit and chocolate. Its four stills carry downward angled lyne arms for a fuller spirit. This is a Speyside single malt of real standing.

Chosen by Cadenhead, Scotland's oldest independent bottler, Aberdeen born in 1842 and now in Campbeltown, this a 24 year old GlenAllachie, distilled in 1992, at 54.2%, one of 258 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, the home distillery of master distiller Billy Walker. It was designed almost entirely gravity fed, an efficient plant for its time. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes.

It was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, giving a full bodied Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the full character to the fore. In the oxidative, evaporative years the spirit concentrates to dried fruit, dark chocolate and a waxy, resinous depth. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.

Bottled at a cask strength 54.2%, it is deep and concentrated. Raisin, chocolate and a warm spice, over a gentle, creamy oak. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. The finish is rounded, dark and spiced. This is a dark, fruity Speyside single malt.
