Glen Scotia Exclusive Casks 6 Years Old 2017

An official release of Glen Scotia, a 6 year old, from 2017, at 57.5%, 756 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt known for sea salt, oil and a salted toffee. A former owner, Duncan MacCallum, drowned in the loch that fed the distillery, and is said to haunt it.

Made on Crosshill Loch water in the heart of Campbeltown, giving a coastal, briny Campbeltown spirit. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the oily, coastal spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, oily and coastal. The oily, coastal spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and brine to the fore. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.

At its natural 57.5% it is concentrated. A coastal, oily sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Citrus, brine and a salted toffee fill the middle. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
