Description
This official Glen Scotia, an 8 year old, from 2013, cask 483, at 56.2%, 236 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town.
It was run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, for the salty, oily make Glen Scotia is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the coastal spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. The slow distillation and shell and tube condensers give the oily Glen Scotia body. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time. The oily, coastal spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and brine to the fore.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.2%, it is rich. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is oily and briny, the coastal spirit shining through. The close is oily and salted, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the oily, salted malt of the Wee Toon.
