Description
This official Glen Scotia, an 11 year old, from 2008, cask 18/353-2, at 54.4%, 311 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from a town once called the whisky capital of the world. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim.
It was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. A Port cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the brine deepening over a salted toffee. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time.
At its natural 54.4% it is concentrated. Baked apple, brine and a creamy oil, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. Citrus, salt and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the oily, salted malt of the Wee Toon.
