Description
A 20 year old Glen Scotia from the German retailer Whisky.de, distilled in 2005, from cask 123, bottled at 59.6%, one of 123 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
It was worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla over the brine. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the citrus turning to a salted toffee over the oily body. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle. Campbeltown, the Wee Toon, once held some thirty distilleries and was the whisky capital of the world.
Bottled at a cask strength 59.6%, it is rich. Salt, citrus and a soft toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is an oily, coastal malt from the Kintyre coast.
