This official Glen Scotia, a 17 year old, from 2000, cask 265, at 58.3%, 170 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a coastal, briny Campbeltown malt, founded in 1832 on the Kintyre peninsula. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.

It was worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (citrus and apple) and a briny, salted depth. Years in oak round the spirit, the brine and citrus deepening to a salted toffee. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years.

At cask strength 58.3% it is full bodied. Salt, citrus and a soft toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a sea salt lift it. Citrus, salt and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a maritime Campbeltown single malt.
