An official release of Glen Scotia, a 16 year old, at 46%. Glen Scotia is a maritime Campbeltown malt, one of the last three of a town that once held thirty. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim.

Run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the coastal spirit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the citrus turning to a salted toffee over the oily body. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the briny Campbeltown spirit.

At 46% it is smooth and oily. An oily, salted sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft citrus and a salted oil sit behind the cask. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is Glen Scotia, a survivor of the old whisky capital.
