This official Glen Scotia, a 14 year old, at 56.8%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from a town once called the whisky capital of the world. A former owner, Duncan MacCallum, drowned in the loch that fed the distillery, and is said to haunt it.

The spirit was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. It was matured in a Red Wine cask, the wood working into the oily malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper citrus and a salted toffee. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years.

At its natural 56.8% it is concentrated. Salt, citrus and a soft toffee, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. The texture is oily and coating, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish runs long, oily and coastal. This is a Campbeltown single malt of real character.
