An official Glen Scotia, an 11 year old, 2008, at 54.1%. An oily, coastal malt of salt, citrus and a soft toffee, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A slow ferment and shell and tube condensers give an oily make. Campbeltown, the Wee Toon, once held some thirty distilleries. This is Glen Scotia, a survivor of the old whisky capital.

Description
Glen Scotia from the distillery, an 11 year old, from 2008, at 54.1%. Glen Scotia is a coastal, briny Campbeltown malt, founded in 1832 on the Kintyre peninsula. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim.
Run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the oily, coastal spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper citrus and a salted toffee. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice.
At a hearty 54.1% it carries real weight. Salt, citrus and a soft toffee, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. Citrus, salt and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a salty, oily Campbeltown single malt.
