Description
This official Glen Scotia, an 8 year old, at 56.5%, 24000 bottles in all. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle.
Run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, building the Campbeltown Glen Scotia style. It was matured in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood working into the oily malt. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the salty make. Crosshill Loch water and a long ferment give the oily, coastal Glen Scotia make. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. The Campbeltown style is oily and salted, the cask deepening it over the years.
At a natural 56.5% it is full and oily. Salt, citrus and a soft toffee, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The mouthfeel is oily, the fruit carried on a briny body. The finish runs long, oily and coastal. This is a maritime Campbeltown single malt.
