Description
An official release of Glen Scotia, at 46%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from the Loch Lomond Group, salty and oily in style. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
The spirit was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. A Rum cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the salty, oily spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the brine and citrus deepening to a salted toffee. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character.
At 46% it is clean and oily. Citrus, salt and a soft vanilla, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. The mouthfeel is oily, the fruit carried on a briny body. It finishes long, briny and oily. This is a salty, oily Campbeltown single malt.
