Description
This Glen Mhor was bottled by Campbell and Clark, distilled in 1969, from cask 1969 1407/1409, bottled at 45%, one of 2265 bottles. Glen Mhor was the fuller, oilier of the lost Inverness distilleries. A 28 year old appeared in Diageo's Rare Malts collection, a glimpse of the lost distillery.
Drawn off the stills into worm tubs for the full, oily Glen Mhor make, for the full, oily make Glen Mhor was known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the full spirit lead. No age is given, but vanillin vanilla and a rich, oily fruit are well integrated. Active wood frames the fruit without smothering the full, oily spirit. Its make went largely into blends; single malt Glen Mhor is rare and mostly from independents. Most Glen Mhor went to the blenders, a little kept back to mature as single malt. It passed to the Distillers Company in 1972 and was closed in 1983. The cool Inverness air gave a slow, even maturation in the old warehouses. No more will ever be made, the distillery silent since 1983.
At 45% it is full and waxy. A full, oily orchard fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and an oily weight lift it. The finish runs oily, full and warming. This is Glen Mhor's full, oily old Highland style.
