    The Cooper's Choice
    700ml / 46%
    Single Malt

    $855

This Glen Mhor was bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, a 27 year old, at 46%. Orchard fruit and a waxy, oily body. Built in 1892 by John Birnie and the blender Charles Mackinlay. Its water came from Loch Ness, the spirit cooled in worm tubs. Its make went largely to the blenders; single malt is rare. This is one of Inverness’s vanished single malts.

The bottler The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd bottled this Glen Mhor, a 27 year old, distilled in 1982, from cask 1350, bottled at 46%, one of 345 bottles. Glen Mhor was the fuller, oilier of the lost Inverness distilleries. It condensed its spirit in worm tubs, the source of its full, oily body.

It was worked through the stills and worm tubs for a rich, oily body, giving a rich, robust Highland spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the oily spirit. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a waxy oil. A slow maturation suits the full, oily make, the fruit turning waxy with time. The worm tubs gave a full, oily spirit, less copper contact leaving real weight in the make. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, waxy core over the decades. The oily, waxy texture is a mark of well aged Glen Mhor. With Glen Mhor gone, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.

Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A rich, oily fruitiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and oily, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A long, full finish ends on orchard fruit and beeswax. This is a rare Highland single malt from a demolished distillery.
