Description
An official release of Fettercairn, a 14 year old, at 46%. Fettercairn is a fruity Highland malt made on mountain water under the Grampian foothills. Its water comes from springs in the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains above the distillery.
The spirit was run through the water cooled stills for a light, tropical make, for a light, fruit driven spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the light, tropical character to the fore. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the fruit, the body softer and fuller. The water cooled stills give a light spirit that ages with grace. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water. A Scottish oak project has planted thousands of native oak saplings beside the distillery. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the tropical fruit growing richer with time.
At 46% it is fruity, tropical and clean. A light, tropical sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is clean, the fruit carried on a light body. Citrus, fruit and a soft oak see out the finish. This is Fettercairn's pineapple led Highland style.
