Description
A 17 year old Singleton of Dufftown, a distillery bottling, at 55.1%. Dufftown is a smooth, approachable Speyside malt from the town with the most distilleries in Scotland. Its single malt has been sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006, mainly in the UK and Europe.
The spirit was made on Conval Hills water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the nutty, spicy make Dufftown is known for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the fruit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the nutty malt deepening over a soft spice. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The malty, nutty spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its Speyside fruit. Its spirit stills are larger than its wash stills, unusual among Scottish distilleries. A gentle maturation suits the smooth make, the nutty malt growing richer with time.
At a natural 55.1% it is full and nutty. Honey, nut and a touch of spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. The finish is rounded, malty and gently spiced. This is a Speyside single malt of real character.
