The bottler Lady of the Glen bottled this Deanston, an 18 year old, distilled in 2000, from cask 1858A Batch 2, bottled at 56.4%, one of 62 bottles. Deanston is a Highland malt made in a vaulted stone mill, waxy and malty in style. Deanston is the only distillery in Scotland to generate all its own power from the river.

It was distilled slowly for a clean, fruity spirit, giving the soft, malty Highland spirit. It was matured in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood working slowly into the waxy malt. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, apple and pear turning honeyed over the waxy body. Unchillfiltered and at natural colour, it keeps the full waxy body in the glass. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice. River Teith water and a long ferment give the fruity, estery Deanston make. The site was the Adelphi cotton mill, built in 1785 by Sir Richard Arkwright and turned to whisky in 1965.

At cask strength 56.4% it is full bodied. Baked apple, honey and a creamy malt, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle clove lift it. The finish is long, waxy and gently spiced. This is a fruity, unchillfiltered Highland single malt.
