Description
This Dalmore was bottled by the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, a 33 year old, distilled in 1976, from cask DL 6632, bottled at 50%, one of 98 bottles. Dalmore is a Highland distillery on the Cromarty Firth, famous for its rich, heavily sherried single malt. It is owned by Whyte and Mackay, and its King Alexander III bottling nods to the clan legend.
It was run through the distillery's unusual flat topped and water jacketed stills, for the rich, full bodied make Dalmore is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding vanilla and a soft honey. At a great, fragile age oxidation rules, sotolon lending maple and old oak as leather, coffee and dark chocolate linger. An aged Oloroso cask suits the rich spirit, dried fruit and chocolate meeting the oily weight. Most expressions are finished in aged sherry wood, giving orange, chocolate and treacle.
Bottled at a cask strength 50%, it is rich. Orange, dark chocolate and dried fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Marmalade, chocolate and dried fruit fill the middle. The finish is long, rich and chocolatey. This is one of the Highlands' most opulent single malts.
