Description
A 17 year old Dalmore, a distillery bottling, at 49.2%. Dalmore is the Highland malt of the Royal Stag, rich with orange, chocolate and sherry. It is owned by Whyte and Mackay, and its King Alexander III bottling nods to the clan legend.
The spirit was made in copper stills whose water jackets give a heavy make, building the luscious Dalmore style. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the rich character to the fore. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (orange and dried fruit) over the chocolatey, sherried depth. The full bodied make rewards a long, sherried maturation in good wood. Water comes from the River Averon, drawn from Loch Morie in the hills above. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the rich malt. The rich, dried fruit style runs through the core range, from the twelve year old upward.
At its natural 49.2% it is concentrated. Orange, dark chocolate and dried fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Marmalade, chocolate and dried fruit fill the middle. It finishes rich, malty and warm. This is Dalmore, rich with orange and dark chocolate.
