Description
A Dailuaine of a 15 year old chosen by the bottler Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd, distilled in 2007, bottled at 56.2%, one of 279 bottles. Dailuaine, whose name is Gaelic for the green vale, is a heavy, full bodied Speysider. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy.
The spirit was made in large copper stills for a rich, robust make, giving the heavy, meaty spirit at its heart. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the robust spirit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, fruit turning to dried fruit over a rich, malty body. Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt.
At its natural 56.2% it is concentrated. Orchard fruit, malt and a warm spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. The finish runs meaty, fruity and warm. This is Dailuaine, a backbone of the great blends.
