Description
From the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, a 14 year old Dailuaine, distilled in 2010, from cask 307756, bottled at 57.5%, one of 295 bottles. Dailuaine, founded in 1852, gave Scotch its first pagoda roofed kiln. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.
Drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, building the heavy Dailuaine style. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the robust spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. A first fill sherry cask suits the robust spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit over a rich malt.
At cask strength 57.5% it is full bodied. Baked fruit, fig and a savoury depth, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and rich, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
