Description
This Craigellachie was bottled by Edition Spirits, a 14 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask HL 19136, bottled at 58.2%, one of 289 bottles. Craigellachie, where the Fiddich meets the Spey, is the meaty backbone of the White Horse blend. With age the meaty young spirit turns to pineapple, mango and a waxy depth.
It was run through the distillery's stills and old fashioned worm tubs, for a bold, meaty Speyside spirit. A Pedro Ximenez cask added raisin, date and a treacle sweetness. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the worm tub weight softening to tropical fruit. The heavy, oily make is prized by blenders for the backbone it gives White Horse. It keeps its worm tub condensers, an old fashioned set up that builds a heavy, meaty, sulphurous spirit. Long ageing turns the young, sulphurous spirit towards mango, wax and a warm spice.
At a natural 58.2% it is full and honeyed. A robust, oily fruitiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is robust and waxy, the muscular spirit shining through. The finish is deep, oily and savoury. This is a meaty, tropical Speyside single malt.
