Description
An official release of Cragganmore, a 15 year old, at 48.8%, 1869 bottles in all. Cragganmore is a meaty, fragrant Speyside malt made on flat topped stills and worm tubs. John Smith reputedly weighed over twenty stone and could not use the railway he loved, too large for the carriages.
Distilled in flat topped stills with worm tub condensers on Craggan Burn water, to build a complex, savoury, fragrant character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft honey behind the complex malt. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and dried fruit) over the meaty, malty depth. A Port wood finish, the Distillers Edition style, adds plum and dark berry to the malt. The complex, fragrant spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its meaty, malty core. Water comes from the Craggan Burn, off the slopes of Craggan More hill.
Bottled at a cask strength 48.8%, it is rich. Orchard fruit, malt and a warm spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. The finish is deep, fragrant and savoury. This is Cragganmore's fragrant, meaty Speyside style.
