Clynelish 10 Years Old 1992 Cask #672 / 677 (Hedges & Butler Ltd.)

The bottler Hedges & Butler Ltd selected this Clynelish, a 10 year old, distilled in 1992, from cask 672 / 677, bottled at 43%. Clynelish is a waxy, citrussy Highland single malt from the village of Brora. Clynelish sits on the North Sea coast at Brora, in the far north east of the Highlands.

Drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, for the famous waxy texture at its heart. A bourbon barrel held it, vanilla and a little coconut under the wax. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the wax, lemon deepening to candied orange. The oily, waxy texture is the signature that blenders prize above all. Most of its make goes to blending, with a fourteen year old the flagship single malt. Refill oak lets the famous Clynelish wax lead, lemon and honey beneath. The unpeated make leans on texture and citrus, the cask adding depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the wax.

Reduced to 43%, it is supple. An oily wax with citrus and brine, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft citrus and a honeyed wax sit behind the cask. The close is long, wax over a citrus lift. This is a coastal Highland single malt of rare texture.
