Over an Islay Rainbow Edition 2019 Sa Master’s cask (Samaroli)

Over an Islay Rainbow Edition 2019 Sa Master's cask (Samaroli) is a blended malt Scotch from Samaroli. It brings together malts from more than one distillery, Caol Ila lending the peat. The distillery was expanded again in the 21st century to meet blend demand.

The Caol Ila within lends a clean, lemony Islay smoke rather than a heavy tarry one. Refill American oak let the spirit speak, adding a quiet honeyed note. A gentle vanillin sweetness from the oak balances the coastal phenols. Active wood frames the smoke without smothering the citrus beneath. Olive oil and lemon sit at the heart of the Caol Ila character. Its peated character is built on malt smoked to a medium level of phenols. Long fermentations build the fruity, citrus notes that sit beneath the smoke. Time in oak deepens the oily body while the maritime smoke stays bright.

At 45% it is soft, oily and bright. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. Smoke, lemon and a saline minerality fill the middle. Smoke and sea salt see out a long finish. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
