Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 1992 MBl The Maltman (Meadowside Blending) is a blended malt Scotch from Meadowside Blending. It vats single malts from several distilleries, with Caol Ila for Islay smoke. From a small Victorian works it grew into one of Scotland's biggest malt distilleries.

The Caol Ila within lends a clean, lemony Islay smoke rather than a heavy tarry one. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. The make balances phenolic smoke against a bright, oily citrus. The spirit's high notes of lemon and grass survive even long maturation. The medium peating leaves a smoke that is firm but never heavy. Active wood frames the smoke without smothering the citrus beneath. The tall stills and a high cut give a lighter, cleaner spirit than the southern Islays. A few weeks each year the distillery runs an unpeated, Highland style spirit.

At a full 47.6% it is bold and oily. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. A maritime salt and a lemon lift run through it. The finish runs oily, smoky and clean. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
