Description
An official Tullibardine single malt, a 17 year old from 1993 and bottled at 40%. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 in Blackford, on the edge of the Highlands; it was the first distillery built in Scotland after the war. Delme-Evans went on to design the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries.
It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Danny Burn, for a soft, vanilla scented spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper, maltier fruit. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. Part of the old estate was turned into a retail outlet during the lean years. The distillery sits just off the A9 near Gleneagles, one of Scotland's more accessible. Under French wine ownership the distillery has leaned into its cask finishes. The Murray and Custodian's Collections gather its older and rarer bottlings.
At 40% it is gentle, honeyed and fruity. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under a mellow, honeyed character. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. Toffee, honey and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a gentle, honeyed Highland single malt.
