Description
An official Tullibardine single malt, a 42 year old Highland malt from 1964, drawn from cask 3362 and bottled at 43.4%. 212 bottles in all. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 by William Delme-Evans in Perthshire, off the A9, and it stands on a site with five centuries of brewing. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle all on the one site.
The spirit was made in copper stills for a soft, fruity make, for a fruity, mellow make. A sherry cask wrapped the soft spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At thirty years and more it is rich and mellow, candied fruit, honey and old oak in a deep old malt. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle entirely on the one site. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries.
At its natural 43.4% it is concentrated. Raisin and a nutty sherry depth build, and vanilla and a light toffee from the barrel runs under apple, honey and a gentle spice. It is fruity and soft, the fruit and oak well matched. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a honeyed Highland single malt from Perthshire.
