Description
This Tormore, an official release, aged 10 year old and bottled at 40%. Built in the late 1950s beneath the Cromdale Hills in Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. Long a filler for the Long John and Ballantine's blends, Tormore was rarely seen as a single malt.
The spirit was run through purifier stills for a light, clean spirit, to build a clean, citrussy, almond edged character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the almond clear. The light, ester rich make takes cask character well across maturation. Most of the spirit matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon wood. The distillery sits near Grantown-on-Spey, in sight of the Cromdale Hills. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range.
At an easy 40% it is gentle. A nutty, orchard fruit sweetness sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. A green apple and a citrus note lift it. It finishes clean, fresh and nutty. This is the architectural jewel of Speyside in a glass.
