Single malt Tomatin, an independent Cadenhead's bottling, aged 10 year old and bottled at 53.7%. Set in the Highland hills south of Inverness, Tomatin has made single malt since 1897. Tomatin malt long fed blends such as The Antiquary and The Talisman.

It was run through the distillery's onion stills after a long fermentation, to build a fruity, gently spiced character. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the soft make. Younger here, it keeps a light, fruity freshness over soft honey. The soft, fruity spirit takes cask character readily across maturation. It closed in 1906 and reopened in 1909, finding its feet over the following decades. The Antiquary blend came into the group through the blender J and W Hardie. Malt is bought in, the distillery's own floor maltings having closed in the 1980s. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity.

At its natural 53.7% it is concentrated. Orchard fruit and a gentle malt, and the Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle. It is gentle and fruity, the soft spirit shining through. A fruity, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is the soft, fruity Highland malt of Tomatin.
