This Cu Bocan single malt, bottled at 46%. The outturn was 6000 bottles. Cù Bòcan is the peated sub brand of Tomatin, distilled for a short run each year. It was bought in 1986 by Takara Shuzo of Japan, the first Scotch distillery in Japanese hands.

Distilled from peated malt for the smoky Cu Bocan make, building the smoky Cu Bocan style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, vanilla beneath the soft peat. With no age statement, it shows a soft peat smoke over fruity Tomatin spirit. Long ageing turns the young smoke into a gentle, sweet peat. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones. Cold, clean water runs down to the distillery from the hills above. Under Japanese stewardship the focus turned from sheer volume to quality. The very long fermentation is central to the distillery's fruity character.

Reduced to 46%, it is soft. Wood smoke, honey and a fruity sweetness, and the refill bourbon lends a quiet vanilla. Beneath the smoke run apple, honey and a soft spice. It closes on a soft smoke and a warm fruit. This is the peated single malt of Tomatin, Cu Bocan.
