Description
This official Tomatin single malt, a 12 year old Highland malt from 2003, drawn from cask 35329 and bottled at 58.1%. Only 690 bottles were released. Founded in 1897 high in the Monadhliath hills, Tomatin makes a soft, fruity Highland single malt. A very long fermentation, among the longest in Scotch, builds the fruity character.
Distilled slowly for the soft, fruity Tomatin make, building the approachable Tomatin style. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the soft make. Past a decade the fruit deepens into honey, apple and a soft spice. Long, gentle ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey and soft spice. The Antiquary blend came into the group through the blender J and W Hardie. Malt is bought in, the distillery's own floor maltings having closed in the 1980s. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink.
At its natural 58.1% it is concentrated. Apple, vanilla and a light spice, and the Oloroso adds figgy fruit and a warm nuttiness. It is gentle and fruity, the soft spirit shining through. A fruity, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is the soft, fruity Highland malt of Tomatin.
