A distillery bottling of Lindores Abbey, a 4 year old from 2019, drawn from cask 190454 and bottled at 60.4%. Only 244 bottles were released. Lindores Abbey Distillery, in Fife, stands on the ground named in Scotch whisky's founding document, the 1494 Exchequer Rolls. The first single malt, MCDXCIV, the Roman numerals for 1494, was released in 2021.

Distilled from local barley in copper stills on borehole water, giving the orchard fruit and butterscotch of the house style. Maturation in an active cask lent red fruit and spice. The layered, fruity make takes a wide range of casks well. Lindores also makes Aqua Vitae, a botanical spirit after the medieval water of life. The whisky is bottled on site at Newburgh to keep transport low. A young distillery, it leans on active casks to bring its whisky to life quickly. The house style is layered and fruity, richer than a typical light Lowland. The Casks of Lindores range shows the spirit in bourbon, sherry and STR red wine wood.

At its natural 60.4% it is concentrated. The Cognac brings grape and a vinous, dried fruit note. The mouthfeel is full, the fruit carried on a young body. A warming, fruity finish lingers. This is a characterful young Lowland single malt.
