An official Lindores Abbey single malt, aged 4 year old from 2018, drawn from cask 18/577 and bottled at 59.1%. A release of 720 bottles. Founded in 2017 by Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith, Lindores Abbey distils where a monk made aqua vitae for the king in 1494. Lindores also makes Aqua Vitae, a botanical spirit after the kind of drink the monks once distilled.

The spirit was made in copper pot stills from barley grown on the abbey grounds, for a rich, fruity young spirit. A sherry cask wrapped the young spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. The cool Fife climate gives a steady maturation by the Tay. Michael Jackson wrote that for the whisky lover Lindores is a pilgrimage. The distillery was built in 2017 by Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith, whose family has held the land since 1913. The late Dr Jim Swan shaped the cask policy, with his signature recharred red wine barriques. Barley is grown on the abbey land and water drawn from a borehole the monks first dug.

At cask strength 59.1% it is muscular. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. It is fruity and bold, the spirit and oak well matched. A long, fruity finish carries a chocolate note. This is a layered young single malt from Lindores.
