Description
A distillery bottling of Lindores Abbey, aged 4 year old from 2018, drawn from cask 18/488 and bottled at 61.9%. A release of 282 bottles. Lindores Abbey Distillery, in Fife, stands on the ground named in Scotch whisky's founding document, the 1494 Exchequer Rolls. The first single malt, MCDXCIV, the Roman numerals for 1494, was released in 2021.
Distilled from local barley in copper stills on borehole water, giving the orchard fruit and butterscotch of the house style. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak giving vanilla and a toffee note. The layered, fruity make takes a wide range of casks well. The Tironensian abbey was founded in 1191 on the banks of the Tay, and welcomed kings for centuries. Lindores also makes Aqua Vitae, a botanical spirit after the medieval water of life. The whisky is bottled on site at Newburgh to keep transport low. A young distillery, it leans on active casks to bring its whisky to life quickly.
At its natural 61.9% it is concentrated. The ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, orchard fruit and butterscotch. The mouthfeel is full, the fruit carried on a young body. A long, fruity finish carries a chocolate note. This is a characterful young Lowland single malt.
