Description
A Tamnavulin single malt, selected and bottled by Decadent Drinks, a 34 year old from 1991 and bottled at 48.7%. 208 bottles in all. Tamnavulin, built in 1966 at Tomnavoulin, deep in Glen Livet, is the mill on the hill. The modern range is known for its cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour.
Distilled in copper stills fitted with purifiers, for a light spirit, giving the soft, grassy spirit at its heart. A sherry cask gave a Christmas cake richness to the light spirit. At this great age the malt is full and settled, the fruit deep and the oak polished. A patient maturation suits the light, fruity Tamnavulin character. Tamnavulin stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill, its old water wheel preserved on the label. It is one of the few distilleries to sit right on the River Livet.
At 48.7%, undiluted, it is deep and honeyed. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, Christmas cake and a nutty depth, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under honey, apple and a gentle spice. It is light and fruity, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is rounded, honeyed and soft. This is a fruity Speyside single malt of real charm.
