Description
This official Tamnavulin single malt, drawn from cask Batch 0308 and bottled at 40%. Tamnavulin was founded in 1966 by Invergordon Distillers in the Livet glen of Speyside, and it long supplied the Whyte and Mackay blends. It stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill; the name means mill on the hill, and the old water wheel survives.
The spirit was run through purifier stills on soft Easterton Spring water, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. A sherry cask finish wrapped the light spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. With no age statement, it shows a light, fruity body and a soft honey. The purifiers lift only the lightest vapours, giving a clean, fruity spirit. Tamnavulin stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill, its old water wheel preserved on the label. It is one of the few distilleries to sit right on the River Livet.
At 40% it is smooth and fruity. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, Christmas cake and a nutty depth, and a light, fruity sweetness meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Beneath it run apple, honey and a soft spice. It closes smooth, fruity and soft. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
