Springbank 12 Years Old LBS (Luvians Bottle Shop)

This is a Springbank single malt, chosen and bottled by Luvians Bottle Shop, a 12 year old, drawn from cask 589 and bottled at 57.9%. A release of 278 bottles. In Mitchell family hands since 1828, Springbank is a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.

The spirit was distilled the Springbank way, two and a half times from floor malted barley, and slowly worm tub cooled. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Around the mid teens the malt gains depth while keeping its oily salt. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation.

At a natural 57.9% it is full and oily. Vanilla, honey and coconut meets oily orchard fruit, salt and a wisp of peat. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is an oily, salty Campbeltown classic.
