Springbank 24 Years Old 1993 Cask #14 (Glenscoma)

Single malt Springbank, an independent Glenscoma bottling, a 24 year old release from 1993, drawn from cask 14 and bottled at 52.7%. A release of 300 bottles. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery distilling since 1828, a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The family owner also holds Cadenhead's, the oldest independent bottler in Scotland.

It was distilled two and a half times from lightly peated, floor malted malt, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. Ex-Sherry wood suited the heavy make, adding a dried fruit richness. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and deep, tropical fruit and salt over an oily base. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations.

At a hearty 52.7% it carries real weight. Dried fruit, fig and walnut meets an oily, maritime character with light peat. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. The finish is long, waxy and briny. This is a revered Campbeltown single malt.
